The band and the music
Who are the Suitcase Sessions?
We are a collective of musicians based in Ireland who have spent years playing together at weddings and events. Rather than one fixed band, we have four distinct lineups, each a real working group with its own character. What ties them together is the same standard of musicianship, the same approach to reading a room and the same commitment to making your night a great one.
How do I know which lineup is right for us?
The main things to consider are your venue size, your budget and the kind of energy you want in the room. The Suitcase Seven is our flagship. Sessions South is our tight, versatile four-piece. Sessions East and West are also four-pieces, each with their own personality and setlist identity. If you are not sure, just tell us about your night and we will point you in the right direction.
Will the band I see in the videos be the band at my wedding?
Yes. When you book Sessions South, you get Sessions South. When you book the Suitcase Seven, you get the Seven. Each lineup performs together regularly. These are not pickup bands assembled for the occasion. The videos show you exactly what you are getting.
How does the setlist work?
We do not publish a fixed setlist. That is intentional. Our sets are built to read the room and keep the floor moving from start to finish, which means we need the flexibility to call the right song at the right moment. You are welcome to flag anything you would love to hear or anything you would rather avoid.
Can we request specific songs?
You are welcome to flag must-plays and no-goes when you fill out the booking form and we will always take them into account. We just ask that you resist the urge to send a full setlist. A night that flows naturally is worth more than one that has been over-planned.
What genres do you cover?
Across the four lineups we cover a wide range: indie, funk, soul, pop, rock, disco and plenty of floor-filling classics. The setlists are built to hit all ages without being predictable, with a few clever surprises along the way.
Can we see the band live before booking?
We do not do public showcases or wedding viewings. Our YouTube channel is full of live performances. You could be there all day watching.
Booking, pricing and dates
Who will I be dealing with when I enquire?
You will deal directly with Jesse, who founded the Suitcase Sessions and oversees every booking. You will not be passed around or handed off to an agent. Jesse manages all enquiries personally and makes sure the right lineup is matched to your night.
How far in advance should we book?
Popular dates, especially summer Saturdays, can book out well over a year in advance. As soon as you know your date, it is worth getting in touch to check availability.
What is the booking process?
Fill out our enquiry form with your date, venue and what you are looking for. We will come back with the right lineup recommendation and a full quote. Once you are happy, we send you a contract and take a deposit to secure the date. From there we stay in touch in the lead-up to your wedding.
How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on your date, location and which lineup you are going for, so we do not publish fixed prices. A Saturday in August in Kerry is a different conversation to a Tuesday in Dublin in November. Fill out the enquiry form and we will come back with a clear, itemised quote. No vague estimates, no hidden costs.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
Yes. We take a €200 deposit to secure your date. The balance is due closer to the wedding. Everything is laid out clearly in the contract so there are no surprises.
Can we hold a date provisionally?
We do not offer provisional holds. Dates are only secured with a deposit and a signed contract. If you are not quite ready to commit, get in touch anyway and we will let you know what is available. Popular dates go quickly, so it is always worth moving sooner rather than later.
Can we book without knowing all the details yet?
As long as you have your date and venue confirmed, we can get the booking started. Timings, song requests and the finer details can all be sorted later. The important thing is securing your date before it goes.
On the day and logistics
Do you do first dances?
Yes. Let us know your song when you book and we will learn it if it is a good fit for the band. We will also talk you through how the transition from dinner to dancing works so the whole evening flows naturally.
How long do you play for?
Generally two one-hour sets with a fifteen-minute break in the middle.
Where are you based and how far do you travel?
We are based in Dublin and cover the whole country. We regularly travel for weddings and factor travel costs into your quote upfront.
Do you provide sound and lighting?
Yes. Every booking includes professional sound and lighting to a high standard. For larger venues or events over 200 people we will discuss what is needed and make sure everything is covered.
Do you have public liability insurance?
Yes, we hold full public liability insurance.
Can you play our ceremony or drinks reception?
Yes. We offer full-day packages that cover ceremony music, drinks reception, dinner sets and DJ. See our Extras page for more detail.
Is a DJ included?
A DJ can be added to any booking. We only use our trusted pool of DJs, who all work at a really high level.
